Spartans Quiet Storm, 7-6
The Wauwatosa Spartans (4-4) came to Hart Park in Wauwatosa as visitors on Saturday night, as they were hosted by the Milwaukee Storm (0-7) in Ironman Football League (IFL) action. The game was as ugly as the conditions, but the Spartans were able to come out with a win, 7-6.

With the win, the Spartans earned the American Conference's number two seed for the upcoming IFL playoffs. The team will host round one at Wisconsin Lutheran College's Raabe Field on August 14 at 7 p.m. against either the Shorewood Monarchs or the Rock County Gladiators.
The winless Storm played like a team with nothing to lose Saturday night and spent the entire game gambling on offense and defense in order to try and narrow the talent gap between the two teams. That, in addition to challenging field conditions, made offense tough to come by for either team.
With recent flooding at Hart Park, the field lights were out of commission for most of the game, and with extremely overcast conditions, visibility on the field was lacking.
Both teams agreed to forgo half-time in hopes of getting in as much game as possible while the field staff continued to work on the lighting. In the third quarter, some lights were able to be turned on, enabling the game to be finished. In addition, the scoreboard was without power for the majority of the game.

The Storm scored in the fourth quarter when their defense sacked Henner inside the 15-yard line and forced a fumble, which was recovered for a touchdown, but they missed the extra point, which proved to be the difference.
The Spartans hit the road this week for their final regular season game as they head north to take on the Fond du Lac Crusaders at 7 p.m. at Winnebago Lutheran Academy.
The following week is the team's bye week, leading into the playoffs.
